MATCON2023 is the 7th international conference of the prestigious MATCON series organized by the Department of Applied Chemistry, CUSAT. As a vital component of the scientific community, the conference aims at exchanging and nurturing innovative ideas of the latest and cutting-edge research among the academicians, scientists and industrialists all over the world. The 3-day international conference will be devoted for invited lectures by eminent academicians and scientists, oral presentations and poster presentations by researchers and budding scientists from various part of the globe. MATCON-2023 is expected to foster transparent and equitable science for all.

DEPT. OF APPLIED CHEMISTRY of CUSAT was established in 1976 to play an important role in the further development of the industrial belt in the greater Cochin area by providing scientific support and trained personnel to the industries and by acting as a catalyst for the establishment of new industries. The Department has now grown and has emerged as one of the best centers in Chemistry in the State of Kerala. The Department currently offers M.Sc. programme and Ph.D. Programme in Chemistry.

WITH PROFOUND GRATITUDE
Dr. K. Girish Kumar, Senior Professor, Department of Applied Chemistry, CUSAT has 33 years of teaching experience and 36 years of research experience in Analytical Chemistry. He started his career at Gandhigram Rural institute, Tamil Nadu in 1989 and joined at the Department of Applied Chemistry, CUSAT in 1999 as a reader in Analytical Chemistry. He is the visiting professor of Department of Chemistry, Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. He served as the Head, Department of Applied Chemistry and Dean, Faculty of Science, CUSAT. He was the chief co-ordinator of Guinness World Record Breaking Event “Largest practical science lesson” and “Largest practical biology lesson” held in 2015 and 2017 respectively. He is instrumental in organizing various science popularization programmes. In addition to research responsibilities, he is an active member of various academic and research bodies and presently serving as the Director of Internal Quality Assurance Cell, CUSAT. As a peer team member of NAAC, he is always guiding the university in the right direction to achieve its goals. The main thrust of his research is in the development of chemical sensors with special emphasis on electrochemical and optical techniques with 132 research publications in peer reviewed international journals. Prof. K. Girish Kumar is officially retiring from his academic responsibilities in April 2023. In order to honour the devoted teacher, avid scientist, able administrator, fervent organizer and trusted mentor we are hereby dedicating MATCON 2023.
